Letter Writing

Personal Narratives-A personal narrative tells the true story of something that happened to you.  To write your own personal narrative, choose a story from your life to write about. It could be a special memory with someone you care about or an experience you will never forget.
Realistic Fiction- A story written with made-up characters.  These are stories are about things that could happen in real life. They usually feature children as their main characters and present  "real-world" problems or challenges to show how young people how to solve a problem.

During our author study we will be helping students discover how authors develop their personal style of writing.  By studying Tomie dePaola we will work on developing our own unique style when it comes to our own writing.

Informational Research Paper- A written piece that included facts about a subject. Some example topics are: sports, animals, space, weather, science

Poetry A verse written to create a response of thought and feeling from the reader. Poetry is often written in rhythm and rhyme. Students will create a poetry book throughout the year. We will be frequently adding new poems into our books and discussing pattern, feeling, and the message behind the poem. We will also be highlighting the rhyming the words.

Letter Writing- Students will be learning the process and set-up of letter writing.  They will be learning how begin and close a personal letter.
